I am pleased to announce the release of my latest limited edition etching titled ‘Winter's Sun’.
This piece is particularly special to me, it is a conceptual artwork centred in reality.
The tree itself and I go back some time now. The beautiful Oak used to be my local tree during my decade spent living in London. I remember first drawing the tree back in 2016, it was the second tree I had ever truly drawn in such detail and with such focus.
Years later, I left the city but I have found that I am always been drawn back to visit her. A few years ago, she suffered some fairly severe storm damage which prompted a visit, this time with my easel. The drawings I have created as well as my memories of creating them have influenced this artwork deeply.
Trees link us inextricably to our past and into our future. The rhythm of the seasons play out to those who notice. The circle, although appearing like a setting sun, is in fact a circle of time and the tree's bare branches are hanging on to winter, holding on to the past.
My memories of this tree are fond ones and despite us parting and changing in our own ways, I will always find warmth when taking my mind back to the days spent studying her branches.
I am releasing only 10 editions of ‘Winter's Sun’, each one meticulously etched to capture the delicate interplay of light and shadow. The oak tree stands as a symbol of resilience and enduring beauty, even in the heart of winter.
