This etching is titled ‘Where Night Meets Day’, and it’s based on a story that’s stuck with me for a long while now, one I’ve wanted to retell through my work for a long time. It feels like the perfect story to explore right now as I try to find my own balance between fatherhood, family, and making work that feels honest and alive.

Long ago, the Cherokee prayed for endless day.
They wanted to work forever under the bright sun. But they soon tired, forgetting the need for rest.
Then they asked for endless night, so they could sleep forever.
Without the sun, they forgot the beauty of life.
The Creator was saddened by their longing and loss.
He mourned for those who perished during the Long Night.
To honour them, the Creator made the cedar tree. The spirits of the lost were placed inside the cedar.
The cedar became a sacred symbol of resilience and remembrance.
The Creator restored the cycles of day and night.
The sun rises and sets, bringing balance to the world.
The cedar stands tall as a reminder of harmony.
Life needs both light and dark to be whole.
The Cherokee learned to respect the natural order and remember those who came before.
