A Friend of Mine - 26th Edition
A friend of yours is a friend of mine.
Hidden deep in the woods stands a 600-year-old ancient sweet chestnut.
For the last six years of my life, it has been a constant, a place of comfort through both the most beautiful and the most challenging times.
In its presence, I’ve witnessed something difficult to put into words, an indescribable magic, almost inconceivable to the eye, yet undeniably powerful.
This etching explores the bond that can form between human and tree, something that reveals itself only when we give it time, attention, and an open mind.
At the heart of the piece are my chosen protagonists: my boy and “my” tree. But in truth, this etching is for anyone who has ever felt drawn to the magic of the trees.
It’s also a reflection on something I’ve come to understand more deeply: how children often guide us back to that sense of wonder we once held so naturally.

Watching the bond between my son and the trees grow and deepen has been one of the greatest honours. Witnessing the power of this friendship, helps me understand my own love for trees, strengthening the respect I hold for them.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the sense of wonder children feel instinctively, somewhere along the way, our lives grow more complex, responsibilities grow, and we begin to pass by without looking up, without really seeing.
But I don’t think that sense of wonder ever truly leaves us, it just waits.
